Beyond Magnetic EP is Metallica release of 4 unreleased Death Magnetic songs.

Rob Trujillo said: “We wrote a total of 25 songs, recorded 14 and chose 10 for the album. We butted heads on some of them. And we hated to see some go. One in particular we didn’t include on the album because it wasn’t finished. But I think it would have been the most brutal and hard song Metallica has ever written.”

With Beyond Magnetic EP you can hear 4 studio versions that didn’t make it onto Metallica’s Death Magnetic.

In Paris, for a TV appearance promoting a controversial collaboration with Lou Reed, word comes through that a fan wants to meet them. But not just any fan – it is teen sensation Justin Bieber.

The only trouble is, he’s been visiting Disneyland and his car has broken down. Metallica singer and guitarist James Hetfield snorts with incredulity. “Justin Bieber can drive?”

There is much guffawing in the Metallica camp but drummer Lars Ulrich is genuinely disappointed. “Can you imagine that picture? Metallica, Lou Reed and Justin Bieber! We could have put it out that this is our next project. The fans would go f—ing crazy! People already accuse us of betraying metal by working with Lou. Metallica will be spending part of their summer 2012 in Europe playing festivals. This year’s European trek has a twist. Metallica will be playing ‘The Black Album’ in its entirety since it is technically the tail-end of the 20th anniversary of the release (August ’91).

LULU by Metallica and Lou Reed will be released worldwide on October 31st 2011.

Ten songs, 90 minutes of music with graphic lyrics of jealousy, lust, violence and revenge, with grinding riffs and tantalising tones. Some of the song titles are Junior Dad, Little Dog, Mistress Dread and Pumping Blood.

Some lyrics:

I have no real feelings in my soul

“Pumping Blood” opens with a drone that breaks into a crunching march, goes into speed metal gear and breaks into free-fall sections – all over seven minutes, cut live in one take. “Mistress Dread” features Reed singing across a relentless staccato riff played at manic velocity.

Lulu was inspired by German writer Frank Wedekind’s plays “Earth Spirit” and “Pandora’s Box,” which tell a story of a young abused dancer’s life and relationships.

The plays, originally published in 1904 and set in Germany, Paris and London in the 1890s, whirl between the points of view of Lulu, an inverted-Eve-like cipher-mirror of desire and abuse, and the people who fall desperately in love with her. Lulu is the great femme fatale. She was conceived as immoral. Or amoral.

The LULU album was produced by Lou Reed, Metallica, Hal Wilner, & Greg Fidelman and mixed by Greg Fidelman. All songs composed by Lou Reed with significant arrangement contributions by Metallica. More Lou Reed and Metallica photos here.

To promote LULU album, Lou Reed and Metallica will appear on the BBC’s “Later With Jools Holland” on November 8 and 11.

Lou Reed and Metallica collaboration is nearing the release date. The guys were in London on July 13th 2011 doing the photo shoot for the project with the legendary Ross Halfin. This is what Ross had to say:

“Loutallica”. I kid you not!!! Spent this afternoon shooting Metallica and Lou Reed. Lou, who I was expecting to be a nightmare, was completely professional. He just got on with it – got loads done.
