Metallica Comments On Hall Of Fame, Plus Win VIP Passes

Read on for your chance to win 2 x 2 VIP media passes to visit the Rock Hall in Cleveland, sponsored by PositivelyCleveland.

Metallica is one of the induction nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2009. Five of the nine nominees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The nominees are Metallica, Jeff Beck, Chic, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Run-D.M.C., The Stooges, War and Bobby Womack.

Metallica’s the top vote-getter in The Plain Dealer’s ninth annual Hall of Fame poll. Newspaper readers and website visitors were asked which nominees on the latest official Rock Hall ballot are most worthy of induction.

“That’s really nice to hear!” Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said. “It’s been a great year for Metallica. There’s a lot of love and goodwill from the fans, from the critics, from the peers, from all the sixth-graders over at my son’s school. There’s a lot of love everywhere I look. It’s amazing to be able to say 27 years into your career that you actually feel like you’re on top of your game.”

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich said he’d like to see Deep Purple, Rush, Iron Maiden and Motorhead get their due from the Rock Hall.

“I’m a very nostalgic person when it comes to this type of stuff. I believe a lot in lineage. A big element of music is being part of something that’s bigger than yourself. It’s about being inspired. It’s about being influenced. It’s about honing in on what you’re doing and then passing it on.”

“Hopefully, next spring we’ll come and hang out. People who know me well know that I can sit and babble on about music history for way longer than anybody’s interested. So to be part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that would be a huge thing for me, absolutely.”

The inductees will be announced in January 2009 and the 24th Annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony will be hosted on April 4th 2009 at the Public Hall in Cleveland. Metallica’s singer James Hetfield had following comments:

RS: Most likely, Metallica will be inducted into the RRHOF next April. Who will be onstage with you?

Metallica’s James Hetfield: Everyone that played on a record should be there. You’re considered for the Hall 25 years after your first recording, not after you formed.

RS: That would omit Dave Mustaine.

Metallica’s James Hetfield: He wasn’t on a record. Jason Newsted should be up there – he was in the band for 14 years and played on quite a few records- and so should Robert Trujillo.

RS: Will it be wierd to be there with Jason?

Metallica’s James Hetfield: There’s no reason for it to be wierd. We don’t want to be part of the soap opera of the Hall of Fame. Everybody wants a train wreck, like with Blondie onstage arguing over crap in 2006. That really cheapens the moment.

What do you think, does Metallica deserve to be inducted?
Would you like to see Jason Newstead on stage with Metallica?
What about Dave Mustaine on stage with Metallica again?
Interesting point from Metallica XXX Blog visitor Lorrie Belletti, what about good old Bob Rock? He played bass on St. Anger album!

I definitely think that Metallica should be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!! I have been a huge fan for a long, long time (since the mid 80’s). They have stolen my heart. Whenever anyone talks about great bands, Metallica is the first thought that comes to mind. I also believe that Jason should be there with them when they are inducted. He was definitely a big part of the band for a very long time. I would hate to see Metallica receive this great honor without Jason. Now Dave Mustaine… not too sure how that would go over with the band, but if they did bring him along, I wouldn’t miss that for the world.

    METALLICA!!!!

While Mustaine was indeed a part of Metallica, I don’t think he deserves to be recognized during your induction. He may have been there at the start, but he did not contribute to the success you guys have had during these past 20+ years. Jason? Absolutely.

Metallica in the rock and roll hall of fame is a great idea. It would be quite a turnaround from almost splitting up a few years ago to again being the biggest band in the world. Their influence on today’s metal is second to none and they deserve the honour.

Fuck ya!!! Metallica is THE BEST!!! Definitely Jason but no Dave!!

Metallica deserve to be in the ROck and Roll Hall Of Fame if nothing more than enduring some of the harshest criticism regarding their musical choices throughout the years! EVeryone loved GNR and the Beatles but few rock critics loved Metallica. The band that everyone hated, and those that didn’t hate them didn’t know they existed. How anyone can sell so many albums and never make the top 40 is amazing!

As far as Jason and Dave, no Jason he was a hired hand for 14 years without much input. I’d enjoy seeing Dave but that would mean an act of God. But that is the thing about Rock and Roll not much Justice For All…

Metallica deserves this more than any other band with the lives it influenced. It is a living legend already. And to be honest, Jason is still a bigger part of this legend than Rob.

Inducting Metallica into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame is a NO BRAINER!
They Have Influenced almost every one Since Them who have chosen to start a Rock Band.
I was a Convert as soon as I heard “Kill ‘Em All” in 1984 and have remained a fan ever since.
And the final kicker is… They’re Still Relevant and Kicking Ass Nightly.
