Metallica to play a fundraiser concert for Marin History Museum

The Marin History Museum has pulled out of a highly touted deal to establish a “Marin Rocks” exhibit in a downtown San Rafael storefront according to the Contra Costa Times. San Rafael is the county seat of Marin County, California, United States.

In a major boost for the “Marin Rocks” project, James Hetfield, frontman and co-founder of Metallica, has announced that the superstar band will play a benefit concert for the Marin History Museum in September 2009. James Hetfield mentioned “the third week in September” as a possible date for the concert.

A likely venue is the 2,000-seat Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium, the county’s largest concert hall.

“We want to keep the flame growing and flowing,” James Hetfield said. Hetfield and Metallica’s co-founder, drummer Lars Ulrich, live in Marin and have school-age children. The city is located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2007, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that the city’s population was 55,649.

All details will be posted as soon as possible.
