Metallica kicked off the World Magnetic 2008 / 2009 world tour with a concert in Glendale, Arizona in 2008. See the Metallica concert setlist and review below. This Metallica concert was the first on a long North American / European tour in support of the new Metallica album Death Magnetic.
The World Magnetic world tour continued with USA Metallica concert dates until late January 2009, and Metallica then went on European Death Magnetic tour dates until late July 2009. The boys are now back in the USA until end of the year 2009, see all the tour dates below.

What can you expect to see on Metallica’s World Magnetic concerts? You know the setlist now, and here you can see a short Metallica concert review with interesting details on the new tour.
The Spin reports in their Metallica tour review that Metallica’s props included eight silver coffins (each the size of a car) that hovered above the band, a laser show, a dozen multi-colored flames shooting from effects boxes, giant fireballs coming up from the stage, and tons of flashing red strobe lights.
The stage was set up in the center of the arena, with microphones placed all around it, so everyone in the audience had a premium view at some point. A cascade of black Metallica beach balls then came bouncing down from the rafters into the crowd — as if two hours of spectacular showmanship and air-tight musicianship weren’t enough.
AZ Central in their Metallica concert review write that Metallica seems to like Arizona – the band has launched its past two major tours here – and the near-sellout crowd at Jobing.com Arena returned the love. “Arizona, you are loud and proud,” Metallica’s singer-guitarist James Hetfield said.

The crowd got what it wanted when huge yellow flames erupted from the stage before One. As he had at Monday’s rehearsal show at Jobing.com, Hetfield again mentioned “a barbecue,” referring to the serious burns he suffered in a 1992 pyrotechnics accident.
As the band moved through an encore that wrapped up with another classic thrasher, 1983′s Seek and Destroy, Hetfield asked, “Phoenix, who cares about you? Metallica, that’s who.”

Ummm, it’s all about the first 4 albums.
Nothing else.
I’m so tired of hearing all of you whine about the setlist. I went to the garden in Boston last night. Besides around 5 songs of the new album (which is the reason their touring whiners), they played…. For whom the bell tolls, Master of puppets, I’m I evil, Battery, One, Nothing else matters, Enter sandman, Seek and destroy, Hit the lights, Havester of sorrow and a few others that my brain is too fried to remember. When you have 500 songs that kick ass you can’t play them all.
The sound was excellent, their playing was perfect. A 10 out of 10…
To all of of you who are going to sell your tickets because your a candy ass! Go right ahead because you don’t deserve to go….
Peace.
They played Sanitarium on the last night of the North American tour. Prudential Center in Newark 2/1/09. They kicked ass, but the sound system crew should be fired…at times it just sounded like noise. Somewhat disappointed, but hadn’t seen them since the Load tour…so was nice to see them again.
That Was Just Your Life
The End Of The Line
Creeping Death
Harvester Of Sorrow
One
Broken, Beat And Scarred
Cyanide
Sad But True
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
All Nightmare Long
The Day That Never Comes
Master Of Puppets
Blackened
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman
Encore:
Die, Die My Darling
Breadfan
Seek and Destroy
due to the usual lack of people willing to road trip it with me to catch shows and people who are still a bit grossed out by the urination stuff, I had to miss this last tour and miss out on t-shirts. Luckily I found something that I never thought would happen…there is now an official Canadian Merch company and it will make it so much easier for me to get t-shirts and more.

THANKS GUYS!! ALSO SET LIST ROCKED – SEEK AND DESTROY, 3 songs from RIDE THE LIGHTNING, and MASTER…THEY played 6 tracks from the new album all of which rocked…
Glad to see they are back onto HARD and HEAVY.
Got fade to black and all nightmare long btw
I was at the 01 NOV 2009 concert in Quebec City. It was my first real concert and obviously my first Metallica concert. It was amazing. The crowd and the band were full of energy (as was I). 30 thousand people screaming and singing along to nearly every song.
They didn’t play All Nightmare Long. That’s my only negative. Everything else was awesome. They played the right songs. They could have swapped BB&S and one of the slower DM songs for ANL and some other songs from the older albums.
Thanks guys. Oh, and I walked by James Hetfield while walking in Quebec City. That was amazing. I left the man alone out of respect. Walking withing two feet of him was amazing enough! Glad I went for a walk before the show.
HORSE OUT BOYS!

Metallica Rocks.
look at the boise concert setlist i was there it was fucking amazing!!
@METALUPYOURASS, I am glad you enjoyed the show! I believe we are close to getting the live debut of some of the other 5 Death Magnetic songs. Lars has said that they have been practicing all 10 songs and will be mixing between them from night to night. Let us see…
