so i actually got hooked on metallica with the reload album and "fuel." i heard it and saw the video and knew i was gonna love their other stuff. then i went to load which was good...black and on down to kill em all. they only got better the earlier their stuff got. im glad i got to experience them that way. st anger came out and that licked balls. (and so did s and m). death was a move in the right direction. so if everyone is pissed that they sold out with load, what about those guys who say that megadeth and slayer never did? slayer made god hates us all...(sucked) and megadeth made risk...(really sucked), and those came after the black album. so now whos the sell out? out of the big 4 metal bands (metallica, slayer, megadeth, and pantera) ive got to say pantera is the only one who didnt sell out or change their style to suit the day. RIP dime!

For all the good this album has -- which it's about damn time they wrote some good songs -- Lars's snare drum ruins the whole thing. His snare sounds like a fucking tin-can.

You think he would have learned on St.Bullshit that the sound of his drums directly affects the sound quality of the whole song, and it can destroy what would have been a great sound. .............And he did it again on this album. I am SO pissed about that. If "Judas Kiss" had that snapping, fire-cracker sounding snare with a deep punch to it, the song would be a masterpiece. BUT, because his snare sounds like a fucking garbage-can lid again, it ruins the whole continuity of sound.

I hate being too critical of one of my favorite bands. You know? Who the hell am I! I wasn't in that studio, I'm not the one who has to play the damn drums......But then again folks, I AM a consumer of Metallica's goods. I buy their shit, I go to their shows. And if I, and many other people I talked to about this, feel the sound sucks, well then we might not buy their songs or go see them live. We PAY for this stuff, and all we want is a deep, sharp, piercing drum sound that doesn't sound muddy or washy. We want a powerful mid-range SNAP with a high-end after-taste, much like on ....And justice for all. You know, with a deadened sound but not muffled. Just absolutely no echo or reverb - just a pure POW, a thunk, with no funny resonance.

I'm not complaining about the writing of the album, I'm no expert. But I AM an expert when it comes to listening to music for decades now, and knowing when something ruins a song. And I'm not asking him to have the same sound, not demanding that he can't experiment and grow, but Lars should have heard this crap and knew we would hate it. Why weren't we considered? We want songs to relate to, not be focused on how the sound sucks.

I am DISSAPOINTED because this could have been SUCH a great album. But instead, it's a great album with shit smeared all over it, un-playable now.
