World Magnetic Tour Support – Volbeat Turns Down Megadeth To Go On Tour With Metallica

More opening acts have been announced for Metallica’s World Magnetic tour in the USA in late 2009.

French band Gojira will be joining Metallica, along with Lamb of God, for the Fall shows in North America between September 14 – October 18, while Lars Ulrich’s brethren from Denmark Volbeat will be hanging for the Metallica shows between October 26 – December 12. Volbeat will play 15 shows with Metallica for around 300,000 people total.

Michael Poulsen, frontmen of Volbeat, says that it is surprisingly James Hetfield’s wish that Volbeat join Metallica on tour and not Lars Ulrich as you would think. James Hetfield became a fan couple of years ago when Volbeat were opener for Metallica’s concert in Aarhus, Denmark. Couple of weeks ago Metallica’s James Hetfield visited Volbeat’s Michael Poulsen in Denmark and offered him the slot on the tour. Volbeat had to turn down Social Distortion and Megadeth to go on tour with Metallica.

To the guys in the band…….

I have been a Metallica fan for many, many years. I originally had purchased tickets for the show on October 29, 2009. I had purchased four tickets as I was looking forward to sharing this concert experience with my son and my nephew. The date change to November 3, 2009 has now precluded me attending a show that I was very excited about. Not only as a fan, but also as a mother. I know that Metallica has a ‘more important’ concert to perform that night. I find it a bit disrespectful to the fans in Ottawa that can no longer attend the show, especially duing to the fact that my tickets were purchases a full six months in advance. As you are aware, Metallica has fans of many age groups and many of us have had to make arrangements to attend the show in the first place. As you know, the world is a 24/7 world where many people have to work shift work.
